Apollo E. Laven

Apollo E. Laven was a beautiful little boy with an amazing spirit and a gentle soul. He entered this world on April 2, 2017 and left us too soon on May 17, 2019. He was the beloved son of Lindsay D’Amico and Thomas Laven. Apollo was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at 7 months old. He was truly a warrior and fought for his life like a soldier. Apollo faced many months of hospitalizations and grueling courses of treatments and procedures, yet through it all he was able to smile. His big, blue, sparkling eyes captured the hearts of all who met him. A big part of his journey with SMA was shared through Facebook and was followed by hundreds of people who were inspired by his beautiful spirit of courage and strength. #Apollostrong was their battle cry. Apollo was an inspiration; a gift from God whose short life on earth left large footprints on the hearts of everyone. He loved music and dancing, as best he could, playing his drum or his brother’s recorder.

He was an amazing little brother to his sisters, Paige, Farrah and Memphis Laven, Mia Seeger and brothers Logan and Max Seeger. Apollo was never happier than when he was with his siblings, grandparents, David and Shirley D’Amico, Chet and Linda Rhinehart, Art and Kathie Sommers, Ronald and Julie Laven, or any number of family and friends. But his eyes would shine brightest whenever his mama entered the room. Apollo taught us all about life, courage, love and strength. He leaves an amazing legacy for his two short years on earth and continues to shine in Heaven. The following tribute written by a friend accurately describes this beautiful little boy.

He was so very, very special, And was so from the start, You held him in your arms, But mainly in your heart. And like a single drop of rain, That on still waters fall, His life did ripples make, And touched the lives of all. He’s gone to play with Angels, In Heaven up above, So keep your special memories, And treasure them with love. Although your darling Angel, Was with you just awhile, He’ll live on in your heart, With a sweet remembered smile.

A Celebration of Life event will he held on June 8, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a special remembrance hour at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln County Sports Club. Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.
