Buddy Poppy Campaign benefits needs of veterans

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1638 and its Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies in various locations throughout the city of Merrill. The main drive dates are May 17 and May 27. VFW Post member Michele Rathke and Tracy Jopek Auxiliary of Post 1638 will be the Co-chairs for 2019.
Proceeds from Buddy Poppy distributions must be used to benefit disabled and needy veterans as well as the family members and orphans of deceased veterans. “What better way to help our veterans in the community than by distributing this little flower of remembrance.” We encourage everyone in town to stop by the various locations, Dave’s County Market, Lee’s Piggly Wiggly, Pine Ridge Mobil and only May 24th, 25th, 26th at Walmart and get a Buddy Poppy in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This drive is a lead into the Memorial Day, a remembrance of the fallen.
Mayor Derek Woellner signed a City Of Merrill Proclamation, dedicating the week of May 17-27, 2019 as the annual Buddy Poppy Campaign. We are looking forward to seeing everybody we possibly can and be proud when the donations are counted up and sent out to help the needy. Last year’s top distributors were Lloyd “Bud” Schmitz – Post 1638 and Karen Radloff-Auxiliary. Please help the cause and thank you for your continued support.
