Winter Storm Warning issued for this afternoon

As of 3 p.m. this afternoon Lincoln County will be included in a Winter Storm Warning due to projected significant snowfall.

At 11 a.m. this morning, the NWS upgraded an expected Winter Weather Advisory for the area to a Winter Storm Warning, due to a band of heavy snow once projected to trek south of Merrill, now shifting north to include several counties from Eau Claire northeast to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; including Lincoln, Langlade, Marathon, Oneida and Taylor Counties,

According to the NWS, “A narrow band of heavy snow is expected this afternoon into this evening, mainly north of a line from Austin, Minnesota to Black River Falls, WI. Snow amounts of 5 to 8 inches are expected in this band, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible from mid afternoon through early evening. Snowfall amounts may vary considerably over very short distances with this band. South of the heavier band of snow, a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected. Late afternoon and evening travel is likely to be impacted, including the evening commute.”

The warning will remain in effect until midnight tonight.
