A 26 year old Tomahawk man was arrested early Tuesday morning on a criminal traffic charge. A deputy investigating a suspicious vehicle on County Rd N located the man in the running car at 3:00 AM. The man showed signs of impairment and he was placed through field sobriety tests before being arrested for a second offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Two Merrill men will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney after a traffic stop in the Town of Pine River led to drugs. The men were stopped at 3:00 AM on County Rd W near State Rd 64. The driver initially provided the deputy with a false name. K9 Nina checked the vehicle and indicated a positive alert for the odor of drugs. Deputies found methamphetamine, a pipe with meth residue along with marijuana. The men aged 18 and 21 years old will face charges including obstructing, bail jumping and drug charges.

A 46 year old Merrill woman was arrested Wednesday evening on a criminal traffic charge. A deputy checked on a suspicious vehicle in the Prairie Dells at around 10:00 PM. When contact was made with the operator she showed signs of impairment and was placed through field sobriety tests. As a result she was arrested for a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A 27 year old Minocqua man received minor injuries but will face citations and drug charges after a single vehicle crash Saturday evening in the Town of Merrill. Witnesses told deputies the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a sign before rolling over several times. The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle and was transported to Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill where he was treated and released. Deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and the operator admitted to smoking the drug just prior to the crash. The man will be cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance along with charges related to drug possession. Traffic on US Hwy 51 was slowed for about an hour and a half as the vehicle was removed from the median.

A 27 year old Wausau man was arrested late Saturday evening on a warrant charge. Deputies went to a home on County Rd H in the Town of Birch after receiving a report of a suspicious male walking around the property in only his underwear. The man was located and found to be wanted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his probation.

A 37 year old Merrill man was arrested early Sunday morning on a felony charge after a deputy checked on a vehicle in the Town of Merrill. A deputy found the vehicle sitting at the stop sign at County Rd K at County Rd C. The deputy was unable to wake the driver but saw the vehicle was in drive with the operator’s foot on the brake. Deputies were able to unlock the vehicle and secure it. The driver was placed through field sobriety tests before being arrested for a sixth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was also arrested for violating the terms of his probation from a fifth offense OWI charge from 2016.

The Recreation Deputy and a local tow company assisted a Tomahawk man on Sunday evening when a vehicle rolled back into the water of Lake Nokomis. The man told the Rec. Deputy that he took several safety precautions while he was removing a boat from the water near the Bradley Dam. Somehow the brake let go and the vehicle rolled back settling in eight feet of water. It took about an hour for a wrecker to hook onto the vehicle and remove it from the water. It is not known what damage occurred to the truck.

The number of car deer crashes is still high with 16 being reported this past week.
