Hatchet boys swimming wins first meet

The Tomahawk boys swim team hosted Rhinelander Tuesday night in their first meet of the season. The Hatchets took a 92-66 victory over the Hodags with two school records being broke in the process.

The Hatchets had a handful of individual first place finishers. Senior Tom Reiter got the Hatchets six points for his first place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.78 and another four points for his second place finish in the 100 freestyle. Hatchet newcomer Travis Phillips (Sophomore) made his presence felt with his record breaking swim in the 200 medley. Phillips finished with a time of 2:07.66, smashing the previous school record (2:16.88) and taking first place. Phillips wasn’t done there as he swam for another first place and school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of :55.58 (previous record :58.52). Senior Kole Svacina was able to get the Hatchets six more points with his 5:43.40 first place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Tomahawk also had two relays finish in first place. The 100 freestyle team consisting of Evan Ploecklman, Tyler Larch, Tom Reiter and Brady Tjugum got the Hatchets eight points with their 1:49.95 first place swim. The 400 freestyle team made up of Kole Svacina, Keaton Jed, Devon Liebnitz and Travis Phillips round out Tomahawks first place finishers with their 3:52.92 swim.

The Hatchets will be back in the water on tomorrow night as they head over to Antigo for their first GNC dual meet of the year.
