Hatchet swimmers win big over Colby

The Lady Hatchets dominated a rebuilding Colby swim squad in their home water Thursday by a final score of 104-35.

“We juggled the line up to compete against each other,” said THS coach Theresa L’Esperance. “The Lady Hatchets are very dominate in swimming, even when the girls swim events they are not usually focused on.”

Sophomores, Kylee Theiler and Allison Carstenson, had great swims in the meet. Both set more than one person best in their events. Kylee broke 55 seconds in her 100 swims. Also, sophomore Annie Begotka swam the varsity backstroke for a 4th place finish.

“The last relay was great to watch as we really tried to match up eight athletes against each other,” L’Esperance said. “Heading into the last swimmers, the Hatchets were neck and neck. Theiler out touched senior Dallman for a great race.”

The Hatchet divers entered the season for the first time. Woodall outscored Gerstenberger by just a few points.

“We have two great competitors in these freshmen,” L’Esperance said. “The team looks forward to their scoring in big invites as the season progresses.”

Other great swims were Katy Volz and Molly Mott going 1-2 in the breaststroke.
“These girls normally swim the fly, but tonight they put in a nice performance, wit

Volz setting a personal record,” L’Esperance noted. “Kirstin Marcks also set a personal in the 200, she is normally a breaststroker and also nearly broke the six minute mark in the 500. The JV relays also showed some promise for getting better as they develop into better swimmers.”
