Walter “Wally” Loeffelad

Walter “Wally” Loeffelad, age 80, of Merrill, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Ministry Hospice. Wally was born in 1936 in West Allis, WI to German immigrant parents. He and Madeline Schneider were united in marriage on December 31, 1975

He graduated from Boys Tech High School and started an apprenticeship in machinery.  In 1961 while serving in Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Division, his unit was activated by President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his service he joined Local 75 Plumbers Union in Milwaukee as an apprentice. He was a union member for over 50 years and received many benefits. On of which was his heart transplant in 2001. In 1995, he and his wife of 41 years, Mitzi moved back from Florida to Merrill. There they enjoyed life with their children, Duane & Becky Yorde and their granddaughters, Kailey (Alex Mueske) Mueske-Bender and Alyssa (Bryson) Cruise and their children, Carson and Connor. Other children include Linda Loeffelad and her daughter, Amy, of Glenwood, Georgia, and Walter J. (Debbie) Loeffelad with grandchildren Sara, Hannah and Emma of West Bend, WI. Also a sister, Anita (Andy) Vissers, of Fond du Lac, and several nephews and nieces.

Wally was incredibly selfless and enjoyed helping others. He could build anything and he loved fishing and boating. Wally especially loved spending time with family and cheering for the Packers and Badgers. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services for Wally will be held on Thursday evening at 6 PM at Waid Funeral Home. Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Any remembrances may be given to the Lincoln County Humane Society as Wally loved animals. God bless all the wonderful employees at Pine Crest Nursing Home who took such great loving care of Wally during the last 3 ½ years of his life. A special thank you from his wife and family.
