Severe weather in Lincoln County late Sunday afternoon kept emergency services busy for hours. Just before 4 p.m., reports started coming in for damage done by lightning and high winds.
Tomahawk, Corning and Pine River Firefighters responded to numerous calls in their service areas, mostly for trees that had torn down power lines. Deputies also responded to reports of trees and wires down and assisted Merrill Police officers by clearing streets in the city.
The 911 center took a steady stream of 911 calls, many from Marathon County whose 911 lines were so saturated they rang over into Lincoln County, something the system is designed to do in the case of multiple emergencies.
You are urged to use caution if you are traveling in some rural areas as some trees are still on roadways, if you see any electrical wires down please call Wisconsin Public Service.
Power outages were widespread across central Wisconsin Sunday night. As of 8:30 a.m. Monday, WPS reported two outages remaining in the Merrill area, impacting 51 customers. The hardest hit area was Mosinee, where more than 1,600 customers were still without power Monday morning. WPS was also still working to restore power to more than 700 customers in the Wausau area.
