Duane G. ‘Dewey’ Ament

Duane G. ‘Dewey’ Ament, age 85, of Merrill, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Dewey was born April 26, 1930, in Merrill, son of the late David and Adeline (Luedtke) Ament.  He worked at the former Ward Paper Company in Merrill, retiring after 45 years.  Dewey enlisted in the National Guard in 1949, and was honorably discharged in 1959.  Recently, Dewey had a memorial paver placed at the St. Francis Xavier Veterans Memorial in honor of the Ament siblings’ dedicated service to their country.

Dewey enjoyed collecting replica cars and had over 300 cars in his collection.  He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, being outdoors and spending time at his cabin in Lake Tomahawk.  Dewey had a lot of friends and for many years he enjoyed meeting up with his breakfast buddies. Dewey was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill.

Survivors include his sons, Duane ‘Mick’ (Jane) Ament of DePere, WI and Randy Ament of Merrill; his significant other, Carol J. Osness of Merrill; 8 grandchildren, Traci (Jeff) LaCrosse, Terri (Quincy) Koltz, Tiffani (Brian) Schley, Tammi (Nick) LaLuzerne, Tori Ament (Dave Koskiniemi), Angel Brunker, Ty Ament and Tisha Ament; 18 great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Esther Ament of Menasha, WI. Dewey is further survived by Carol’s children, Rick Osness, Kerri (Jim) Wolff, Ron (Margaret) Osness, Ryan (Pam) Osness, Kathy Porter, Rhonda Osness and Rory (Tami) Osness; and Carol’s 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, David and Adeline Ament; his siblings and their spouses, Carmeletta (Lawrence) Kleinschmidt, Corliss (Max) Woller, David (Marion) Ament, Daniel (Dorothy) Ament, Vilas (Marion) Ament, Eldor (Dorothymae) Ament and Jerome ‘Jim’ Ament; and Carol’s daughter, Kim Russell.

The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill.  Father Chris Kemp will preside.  Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery, Merrill.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.  The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
