Merrill Police reports

January 15
8:36 a.m.- An officer responded to a violation of a restraining order complaint. The caller advised the restraining order was served today and they are now receiving harassing Facebook messages from the suspect. The Facebook messages were viewed. The male suspect was located and was taken to jail on the violation of the restraining order and for a child support warrant.
8:33 p.m.- An officer responded to a retail theft complaint. A container of Vicks vapor rub was stolen by an unidentified party. Investigation is ongoing.
January 16
2:11 p.m.- A caller reported an intoxicated driver at a business consuming a beer inside the vehicle. An officer made contact with the man who admitted drinking one beer earlier. He was found to be sober. The beer the man was reported to have been consuming was found to be a root beer bottle which was similar in style to a beer bottle.
3:22 p.m.- A caller reported finding damage to a window of a residence he owns and rents. The damage occurred sometime since October of 2015. He found some power tools had been stolen. The officer will be continuing the investigation.
3:18 p.m.- A store reported a theft. The officer observed surveillance camera footage of a male and female leaving the store with a computer. The officer is continuing investigation.
January 17
2:07 a.m.- A caller reported someone was shining a flashlight into her residence window. Officers checked the area and did not locate anybody. The caller suspected the neighbor as they have been having issues with one another.
2:31 a.m.- An officer on patrol observed a female running down the street wearing pajama bottoms, a light sweatshirt and no shoes in bitter cold temperatures. He opened his window to see what she was doing. She began babbling incoherently and grabbed at the officer. He exited the squad and the female began swinging wildly at the officer. She was taken into protective custody. She continued screaming and babbling and was transported to receive a medical evaluation. It is suspected the female was high on methamphetamine and did admit to an officer she was addicted to methamphetamine and had used methamphetamine on today’s date.
11:04 a.m.- A hotel reported a male had left without paying for his room. The officer is attempting to locate the suspect who is believed to live out of state.
