Merrill Police Department reports

September 21
9:23 a.m.- A caller reported someone had broken into a business recently. They discovered things moved around. It appears as though someone has been sorting scrap metal, etc. into piles.
1:26 p.m.- A caller reported her husband was the victim of an online scam. He had posted a vehicle for sale on craigslist.com and had received a check for more than the asking price. The check came with instructions to use the difference for shipping costs. The check was found to be fake but by the time this was determined the money had already been sent to the “shipping company.”
4:01 p.m.- A caller reported a fight. It was found three individuals were involved in the physical altercation. A female had punched one individual 2-3 times and a second person in the face causing that person’s glasses to become damaged. Statements are being taken and charges forthcoming pending further investigation.
10:53 p.m.- A caller reported yelling coming from a residence consistent with a domestic dispute. When officers arrived they did not hear any type of dispute occurring. Contact was made with the occupants. They denied any type of disturbance. The male was found to be drinking in violation of an open misdemeanor bond. A bail jumping charge was forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
September 22
9:30 a.m.- A female was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
10:54 a.m.- A caller reported receiving a call from a man claiming to be an attorney informing her that she owed $2,000 from a debt 10 years ago. He was attempting to make an arrangement for a $100 payment at the time. The female did not set up any payments suspecting the call to be a scam. It was found it was likely a scam attempt and the officer suggested she check her credit report to be sure the debt was not legitimate.
1:27 p.m.- A 15-year-old student was cited for disorderly conduct for causing a disturbance at school. He has been warned in the past for his disorderly behavior.
2:45 p.m.- A student reported her cell phone was stolen while at school. The School Resource Officer will be conducting further investigation.
3:49 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
5:07 p.m.- A store employee called after finding a female put three shirts on and attempted to walk out of the store without paying for them. The female was cited for retail theft.
September 23
6:31 a.m.- An officer investigated a property damage complaint in the 300 block of Curran Street.
8:08 a.m.- An officer investigated a theft complaint in the 700 block of Wisconsin Street.
9:23 a.m.- A male was arrested and transported to the jail for a Probation Violation.
September 24
8:49 a.m.- An officer investigated a theft complaint in the 300 block of Wisconsin Street.
3:19 p.m.- An officer investigated a theft complaint in the 900 block of Grand Avenue.
4:20 p.m.- An officer arrested a male for a probation violation who was transported to the jail.
September 25
7:59 a.m.- A crash was reported on 3rd Street at Pier Street. A utility truck was parked along the roadway with a worker standing on a rear platform. A vehicle rear-ended the utility vehicle. No injuries were reported. The driver reported her windshield had fogged up and she considered pulling over to allow the windows to defrost but did not. She was cited for unclean windows. A crash report was completed.
5:22 p.m.- An officer assisted Oneida County Sherriff’s Office with an ongoing investigation involving identity theft. Three transactions were completed with a stolen debit card at a Merrill store among other stores in a tri-county area. Investigation is ongoing.
9:50 p.m.- An officer observed two males begin fighting in the area of Memorial Drive at E. 6th Street. The two 15-year-old males got into a physical altercation following a disagreement over ownership of clothing. The two will be referred to social services for disorderly conduct.
September 26
12:40 p.m.- A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 600 block of East 9th Street. The victim reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and removed several items. The investigation is ongoing.
11:30 p.m.- A male party was taken into custody on a Probation warrant for violating terms of his electronic monitoring.
September 27
2:06 a.m.- A complaint of a possible intoxicated male party operating a motor vehicle within the city. The suspect was located after an officer located the vehicle and prior to performing a traffic stop, observed the male party exit the driver’s seat and run to the passenger side after parking in a parking lot. Contact was made and it was found that the male is on an open felony bond with a curfew. He was arrested for the bail jumping violation and a probation violation. His female passenger was also arrested for a probation violation.
