Doris A. Staus

Doris A. Staus, age 92, of Merrill, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She was born March 1, 1923 in Hamburg to the late Arnold and Hertha (Plisch) Voigt. Doris and Lylas Staus were united in marriage September 9, 1944 in Hamburg. He preceded her in death February 12, 1995.
Doris worked at Merrill View Motel for 20 years where she worked as a housekeeper. She loved house cleaning and was always caught cleaning something! Doris also enjoyed mowing the lawn and farming with Lylas on their dairy farm. She enjoyed going to Canada on fishing trips with friends. Doris enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders and was always sure they had a snack. She loved painting walls – as long as it was inside the house. Doris made many batches of applesauce and loved to share with her guests. She was a wonderful caretaker and loved caring for her grandchildren. Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, and was active in the Ladies Aid, Choir and taught Sunday School.
Doris is survived by her daughter: Sue (Ron) Voelz, Merrill; and son: Kenneth (Linda) Staus, Merrill; six grandchildren: Aaron Voelz, Kristina Westfall, Jennifer (Steve) Kaminski, all of Merrill, Keith (Karla) Staus, Hamburg, Jessica (Matt) Prebeg and Kevin Staus, all of Merrill; eight great-grandchildren: Molli (Jeremy) Wicke, Bobbi Wimmer, Jerden Westfall, Anna Westfall, Tristen Prebeg, Izabella Prebeg, Kaleb Staus and Kyle Staus; two great-great grandchildren: Mia Wicke and McKenzie Wicke; four sisters: Mae (Vernon) Mathwich, Lola (Howard) Schmidt, Marion (the late Wallace) Haehlke, and Lorraine (LeRoy) Rusch: one brother: Carl (Joyce) Voigt; two sisters-in-law: Marcella Voigt and Janice Voigt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Lois Achtenberg, twin sister, Delores Scheu and her husband Leslie Scheu, and three brothers, Donald Voigt, Edward Voigt and Earl Voigt.
Funeral Services for Doris will be held at 11AM Thursday, August 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin. Rev. Schmidt will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Wednesday August 19 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 AM until the time of service Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Doris’ name to the charity of one’s choice. A special thank you to Pat, Doris’ roommate and the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home – they were all really great to Doris.
