On Sunday at approximately 1:15 a.m., Merrill police officers were dispatched to 107½ S. Pine St. in the City of Merrill for an active domestic disturbance. An officer on patrol was in the immediate vicinity and arrived on scene very quickly.
Upon arrival at the residence the officer could hear the active disturbance inside as well as indicators that a victim was actively being assaulted. The suspect inside refused to open the door at the officer’s requests and entry was then made to cease any active assault to the victim. Upon entry, the primary suspect, Kristopher Wilmot, fled to an adjacent room.
An additional officer arrived on scene and then both officers proceeded to the area where Wilmot fled in order to secure him for the remainder of the investigation. During this time, the probable victim began to interfere with officers’ efforts to secure Wilmot from within the dark room where he was located.
At this time, Wilmot began a sudden attack of the initial responding officer as well as the secondary officer, battering both. Wilmot was eventually taken into custody following a physical fight and the deployment of an ECD. Both officers and Wilmot sustained injuries during the fight and were subsequently treated at Good Samaritan Health Center.
Wilmot was arrested for two counts of Battery to Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Resisting Arrest causing injury, one count of Resisting Arrest, one count of Bail Jumping, and one count of Disorderly Conduct.
The probable victim was non-cooperative with the domestic disturbance investigation. Additionally, this person was charged with Obstructing an Officer (and subsequently Bail Jumping) for refusing to obey lawful commands and causing officers to be diverted from attempting to control Wilmot.
