A 20-year-old Merrill man was arrested Monday evening on a bail jumping charge. A deputy was traveling north on US Hwy 51 outside of Tomahawk when he recognized the man and his vehicle as being involved in a police chase the month before. A check showed the man did not have a valid driver’s license and was out on bond that required him not to operate a motor vehicle without a valid license. The man was taken into custody on the misdemeanor bail jumping case and was cited for driving with a revoked license. He was brought to the Lincoln County Jail, where he later posted a cash bond and was released.
A 24-year-old Merrill woman was arrested late Tuesday night on a warrant charge. A deputy stopped the vehicle the woman was driving on Pier Street at Taylor Street at the north city limits of Merrill after a query showed the registered owner was wanted. The deputy confirmed the owner was driving the vehicle and she was wanted by the Marathon County Sheriff for contempt of court. The woman was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where she was cited for operating without insurance. She was able to post a cash bond and be released.
A Merrill man was injured Friday evening in a logging accident in the Town of Corning. Just before 6 p.m. a deputy and a warden along with EMS and the Town of Corning Fire Department responded to a home in the Town of Corning after it was reported that a man was injured. Bystanders told the deputy they were moving logs from a log pile to a hot saw when one of the logs rolled off of the tractors lift and landed on the man. The man was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
Two Rhinelander teens received minor injuries after a single vehicle crash Friday night in the Town of Schley. Motorists called 911 at 7:30 p.m. to report a vehicle had left the roadway and rolled over on State Rd 17 north of County Rd C. The 16-year-old driver told the investigating deputy that she was distracted by food she was eating and her vehicle went off onto the shoulder of the roadway. The woman over-corrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll over at least three times. Both the driver and her passenger, also a 16-year-old Rhinelander woman, had minor injuries but denied medical treatment. Traffic on State Rd 17 was slowed for over an hour as deputies worked to clear up the crash. The driver was cited for inattentive driving before both she and her passenger were released to their parents.
A Tomahawk woman and her dog escaped her home unharmed after a fire broke out early Saturday morning. The woman called 911 just after 3:35 a.m. and reported a fire in her home on Camp Rice Point Road in the Town of Bradley. She told the investigating deputy that she started coughing from the smoke and woke up to find a fire. The fire appeared to have originated in a wall with a stove pipe from a wood stove going through it. The fire was confined to this area and damage did not appear serious. The Nokomis Fire Department assisted at the scene, Tomahawk Firefighters were on the scene until just after 6 a.m.
A 25-year-old Merrill man was arrested Saturday morning on a warrant charge. A deputy went to the man’s home on Hill View Road in the Town of Pine River after several warrants were issued for his arrest this past week. The man was taken into custody on three warrants through Lincoln County Court for charges including possession of marijuana as a repeat offender, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, possession of an illegally obtained prescription, five counts of felony bail jumping, felony theft and burglary. The man was also held on a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for probation violation.
A 35-year-old Merrill man was arrested early Sunday morning on a criminal traffic charge. A deputy was observing traffic near the intersection of State Rd 17 and County Rd G in the Town of Pine River when he observed an east bound vehicle on County Rd G leave the stop sign and squeal its tires as it crossed State Rd 17 and continued east on County Rd G. The driver was stopped and the deputy noted the strong odor of intoxicants along with other indicators the man was impaired. He was placed through field sobriety tests before he was taken into custody for a third offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was later released to a responsible party.
The number of car deer crashes has gone up as compared to previous weeks with five being reported.
