The Hatchet boys hockey team dropped a wild 9–4 contest at Wausau East last Tuesday, where goalie Dan Hanke made 49 stops.
“(It was) one of the best learning games I’ve coached yet,” THS coach Rick Myre said. “We learned we have a goaltender that can stop the puck. We learned we can score against teams we play no matter where they are from. We learned that defensively we need to clear the slot after Danny makes the first save. Of the nine goals they scored, only two were not on the rebounds, so we need to fix that big time. We battled the whole game. I ran a third line tonight for the first time and that helped a ton.”
East scored five straight to open up a 3-2 game. Jared Kiander, Nick Osero, Kole Woodall and Caey Myre scored for THS, and Alex Ungerer set up 2. Eight east goals came from 3 players.

Mosinee melee
Host Mosinee jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st, added 3 in the 2nd and closed out an 9-0 win in the 3rd.
“Mosinee is a very good team with 28 kids, most of them upperclassmen,” Myre said. “We gave them all we had and all we could, but they were too much. We came close to smashing the egg but not close enough. On to next week.”
