Hatchets fill up GNC squad

A runner-up GNC season for the Hatchet baseball team paid off with several honors from the all-league team.
Jared Jarvensivu was named First Team infielder, and Aaron Leonhard was Second Team outfield and HM infield.  Pitcher Kevin Bolder and infielder Jordan Roessler also made the Second Team, while Jarvensivu (pitching), catcher Lorne Ahrens and utility Fletcher Schoone received HM. All were seniors except Roessler.
“Overall, this is a great group of kids that are very deserving of this recognition,” Tomahawk coach Wes Roessler said. “All but Jordan are seniors and will be moving on. It is one of the classiest senior classes that I have ever coached and they are a lot of fun to be around. They have great character and will be missed. I wish them the best in their future endeavors.”
Jarvensivu hit .382 with a .475 on-base %, .412 slugging % and 13 runs. He posted a 2-1 record with 2.63 ERA in the GNC, with 28 strike-outs to two walks. Leonhard hit .405 with .476 OBP and .541 slugging. He had 10 RBIs. Bolder notched a 1.30 ERA and 1-2 record, with 41 Ks and one walk. He hit .308, slugged .385 and had a .413 OBP. Roessler hit .311, with .367 OBP and .444 slugging.
“Jared was solid at every aspect of the game,” Roessler said. “He showed a lot of character battling through an injury late in the season to help his team. Jared will do whatever it takes to help his team win. Aaron had a great senior year. He stepped up and was a leader this year to help a very young outfield. He came up with some very big catches and clutch hits for us this year. Aaron has shown a lot of character in switching positions and doing what is best for the team.
“Kevin had a great year on the mound. He has the ability to take control of the game and always gives the team a chance to win the game. Kevin works hard to make himself better. He will be pitching at the college level next year and he has the potential to do very well. Jordan had a solid year at the plate and defensively. He works very hard and strives to succeed. When he is on, he can be the sparkplug for the team and can make things happen. He has very high expectations and wants to do what it takes to help the team win.”
Ahrens batted .325 with .413 OBP and .400 slugging in GNC games. Schoone had a .200 BA, .273 OBP and .225 slugging %. He posted a 1-1 record with 2.88 ERA.
“Lorne has a great year,” Roessler said. “He worked extremely hard this year and it paid off. His teammates really look up to him. He was the heart and sole of the team and kept his teammates focused. Lorne led the team in most offensive categories and was one of the best defensive catchers in the conference.
“Fletcher is a very versatile player. He will do whatever it takes to help his team win. On the mound he is very efficient and keeps his teammates involved in the game. Defensively he can play anywhere on the field and do a great job. He is a great teammate and helps keep the team loose.”
