The new T.B. Scott Seed Library

T.B. Scott Free Library in partnership with UW-Extension is beginning an Heirloom Seed Lending Library, and you are more than welcome to participate.
If you’re interested in growing, harvesting, and saving free heirloom seeds and transplants, please attend one of two meetings in the library’s downstairs Community Room, from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, and from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The sessions will be hosted by Kat Becker from Stoney Acres Farms, a third-generation certified organic family farm located near Athens. Kat will provide information regarding how you can “checkout” seeds and transplants from the library for free.
Seed-sharing libraries are simple in concept and practice. Patrons are able to take heirloom seeds from the library, plant them in their gardens and then return to the library at the end of the season with seeds generated by the plant that grew from the original seed.
Seed libraries address a growing interest in eating locally-grown food. T.B. Scott joins fewer than half a dozen other Wisconsin libraries with seed libraries. La Crosse Public Library, the state’s pioneer program, has shared more than 600 packets of seeds.
