Early tight games turned into 6-1 losses for the Hatchet girls in both Friday’s game at the Siren co-op and Monday’s home contest with the Northern Edge.
“The score of (Friday’s) game does not reflect how the Lady Hatchets played the game,” THS coach Greg Vallier said. “Siren has the most powerful offense the Hatchets have faced this year.”
Wendy Roberts scoring the first of her four goals late in the first, but Tomahawk’s Erika Vallier answered a minute later with a breakaway goal to tie the game.
“The Hatchets came out strong in the second, but could not get the puck past the Siren goaltender. The Tomahawk girls battled hard in the third but couldn’t slow down the offensive force of the Siren girls. Erin Sparks had the game of the season and turned away 53 shots.”
Roberts tallied the only two goals of the second and the second of three Blizzard goals in the third.

Vallier tallied her goal with 4:11 gone in the first to give THS a 1-0 lead over the he Antigo/Rhinelander co-op, but the Edge netted two per period to take the win.
“The Tomahawk girls didn’t come to play against the Edge and watched as the Edge overpowered them,” Vallier said. “Erika Vallier scored the lone goal and Erin Sparks had 41 saves in a game that she took shots from all over the ice.”

Tomahawk moved to 5-9 for the year (3-5 in the GNC). The Edge is 9-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the GNC, while the state’s Honorable Mention independent Blizzard is 10-5-2.
