A 39 year old South Milwaukee woman was arrested Monday afternoon by the deputy assigned to court house security on a warrant charge; one of two people arrested this week at the court house on warrants. The woman appeared on Monday afternoon for a plea hearing on a drug charge, but a check showed she was wanted by the Merrill Police Department for failing to pay a fine. After her circuit court matter was completed, she was arrested on the warrant and brought to the Lincoln County Jail where she was able to post a cash bond. Later on Monday afternoon, a 36 year old Merrill man was taken into custody on a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was brought to the jail and held.

Deputies are searching for a Grinch-like thief. On Tuesda,y a Gleason man reported the theft of over $8,000 worth of Christmas decorations from a semitrailer that was parked in the Town of Russell. The unlocked trailer was parked at two addresses near State Rd. 17 and County Rd. J near Bloomville over this past month. The owner advised he had numerous items inside for the making of wreaths, such as ribbons and wreath frames. Whoever took the items would have needed another semitrailer or a large box truck to remove the items. If you have any information on this theft case, you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 715-536-6272. Callers may also call Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County at 715-536-3726. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.

Deputies recovered thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise this past week as they investigated one theft case and uncovered another. An investigator from the Office Max security phoned the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and reported he had tracked over $3,000 in merchandise that was purchased online from Office Max and was shipped to an address in the Town of Corning. After the items had been shipped, Office Max learned the credit card used in the transaction was stolen. When deputies went to the desolate address, they found the items but learned later the address is a seasonal hunting shack. Before deputies made contact at the Town of Corning cabin, they phoned a local shipper for Federal Express to ask if anyone had dropped off a package within the hour prior to be shipped overseas. The clerk confirmed a package was just dropped off by a Merrill man to be shipped to Malaysia. When an investigator retrieved that package, he learned it contained a video camera valued at $2,700 that was purchased at walmart.com and was shipped to a Town of Scott man. On Friday, that man admitted to the deputy he met a “woman” in an internet chat room. She told him she was originally from Texas, but had recently been relocated to Malaysia for her work. After gaining his confidence over some time, the woman asked the Town of Scott man if he would re-ship items to her that she purchased online as large retailers often won’t ship overseas. The man agreed not knowing he was now part of a crime that law enforcement calls “re-mailer.” The man also told the investigator that after he agreed to ship the first package, others were now going to be coming and he was expecting a lap top computer but that package was never delivered, making law enforcement suspect the scammer stopped it before it was delivered. Deputies will continue to work with corporate security firms and will relay all of the information to the FBI. ,

A Tomahawk man was injured after a Tomahawk man struck the rear of a semi in the Town of King. A cell 911 caller reported the crash on County Rd. D near Gouda Rd. at 11:25 a.m. According to the deputy’s report, the semi was legally parked alongside of County Rd. D when the 85 year old Tomahawk man struck it from behind. The victim was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital. He was later treated and released. Tomahawk Firefighters assisted at the scene of the crash.

Two Tomahawk men were arrested early Friday morning after deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the Town of Tomahawk. The incident began at 1:30 a.m., when a man called 911 from a residence in the 7000 block of County Rd. O and reported that he was injured after getting into a fight. When deputies arrived, they found multiple items from the kitchen strewn about and the two intoxicated suspects. The pair admitted they had dinner that evening but they continued drinking hours after dinner ended and a fight broke out. In checking on the pair, deputies found the 54-year-old home owner was on probation and as a rule was not allowed to drink. The visitor, a 51-year-old Tomahawk man, was found to have a warrant for his arrest through the Waushara County Sheriff for unpaid fine. Both were brought to the Lincoln County Jail where the visitor was also charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. The 54-year-old remains jailed on a probation hold while the second man was able to post cash bond and be released.

A 20-year-old Merrill woman, recently from Tomahawk, was taken into custody on a charge related to a search warrant executed a week ago in the Town of Bradley south of Tomahawk. Deputies were seeking the woman based on evidence gathered during the search warrant and charged her on Thursday with a felony count of maintaining a drug trafficking place. The woman was held until a bond hearing, at which she was released on a signature bond imposed by a Lincoln County Judge. Deputies also seized $5,000 in cash the woman voluntarily turned over when questioned about proceeds from drug sales.

Seven people reported striking deer this week including a woman from Bessemer, MI who was brought to jail after her crash. The 44-year-old woman struck a deer on US Hwy. 51 north of County Rd. C on Sunday night just after 5:30 p.m. When a deputy ran a check on the woman, he found she was wanted by the Ashland County Sheriff for contempt of court. In 2004, the woman was charged with issuing a worthless check in that county and had never paid her fine, prompting a warrant to be issued in 2006. She was brought to the Lincoln County Jail, where she was able to post bond and be released. Her vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to damage.
