Post 93 streak snapped at 13, new one shortened

The Tomahawk American Legion Post 93 baseball team finally had its season-long win streak snapped at 13 games when Mosinee took a 15-7 contest last Tuesday, but Tomahawk bounced back with two shutout wins at Rib Lake before dropping a 3-1 game to Arcadia in Park Falls on Saturday.
Post 93 immediately got back on the winning track with a 5-1 victory over Chequamegon on Saturday.
“Jared (Jarvensivu) has been able to keep their batters off balance,” Tomahawk manager Wes Roessler said. “This is hard to do for as many times as he pitched against Chequamegon this year.
“They are a very well-coached and talented team. This was a nice challenge for our young lineup that we had (Tues)day.”
Jarvensivu (5 H, 1 W, 6 K, 1 R, 1 ER in 7 I) won. Post 93 parlayed 5 hits and 6 walks into two runs in the 1st, one in the 4th and two in the 5th.
Fletcher Schoone (2-3, 2 RBI), Jordan Roessler (2-3) and Lorne Ahrens (1-3, 2B) paced the hitting.
Tomahawk’s Roessler scored in the 3rd for a lead that would hold up until Arcadia’s three-run 7th.
“Arcadia has several older players and they don’t have any holes in the lineup,” Roessler said. “This was a great challenge for our team and is a sign of the teams we will face in tournament play.
“Our guys played them solid all the way to the seventh inning and the Arcadia hitters were able to come up with some bloopers and take advantage of the situation.
“Kevin (Bolder) pitched a solid game. We just weren’t able to push across a couple of runs in key situations.”
Bolder (6 H, 3 W, 12 K, 3 R, 3 ER in 7 I) was saddled with the loss despite a strong outing.
Roessler (2-4, 2 SB), Bolder (3 W), Ahrens (1-3) and Trevor Iwen (1-3) provided the offense. Arcadia struck out 12 and walked 6.
Rib Lake two-fer
Post 93 topped Rib Lake 7-0 and 8-0 in a pair of five-inning games on Thursday.
“Jon (Nyberg) pitched another gem,” Roessler said. “He did not allow a runner until the 5th inning. It was a great outing. This was a nice bounce back win from our loss on Tuesday. The guys hit the ball well and played great defense and if you can do that behind great pitching, chances are you are going to win.”
A three-run 1st and five-run 4th gave Tomahawk plenty. Jarvensivu (3-3, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) led the way, and Roessler (2-2, 2B, 2 R, 2W), Ahrens (1-3, 2 RBI), Aaron Leonhard (1-1, 2 W), Iwen (1-3) and Isaac Schoone (1-3, 2R) backed it up.
Nyberg (2 H, 0 W, 9 K, 0 R in 5 I) dominated.
Five runs in the 2nd made it 6-0 and Tomahawk tacked one on in the 4th of the second game.
“This was another solid performance by the whole team,” Roessler said. “Good defense, good hitting and good pitching. Five inning games are hard in the fact that one mistake can cost you the game. Our guys were able to stay focused and play the way they are capable.
“Jon and Lorne combined to pitched a very good game.”
Nyberg (1 H, 1 W, 4 K, 0 R in 2 I) started and Ahrens (2 H, 1 W, 1 K, 0 R in 3 I) closed it out. Jarvensivu (2-3, 2 RBI), Roessler (1-3, 2 R), Ahrens (1-2, 2 RBI) powered the offense to 6 hits.
Mosinee meltdown
Mosinee scored five in the 2nd and three in the 3rd for an 8-2 edge. The Tomahawk boys rallied with four in the 5th only to see Mosinee match it, outscore them 2-1 in the 6th and add one in the 7th.
“As a whole, we made way too many mistakes to win this game,” Roessler said. “We are normally a very good defensive team, but that didn’t show tonight. The kids just didn’t play as well as they could have and we were not mentally in the game. Mosinee played a very good game. They hit the ball well and didn’t let their mistakes lead to a huge inning.
“This was a disappointing loss like they all are but to start out the season going 13-0 is a great accomplishment for the guys. They should be very proud.”
Fletcher Schoone (14 H, 2 W, 1 K, 14 R, 13 ER in 5-2/3 I) lost and Roessler (1 H, 1 W, 3 K, 1 R, 0 ER in 2-1/3 I) relieved. Iwen bashed out a 4-4 day, with 2 RBI. Roessler (2-5, 2-2B) had the only other multi-hit day and F. Schoone (1-4, 2B, 2 R) helped Post 93 get to 10 hits and 8 walks.
