Verdayne Schrader

Verdayne Schrader, age 89, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family who cared for him during his recent illness. He was born in Houston, MN on Dec. 25, 1923, the son of Bert and Emma (Strand) Schrader. He graduated from Merrill High School in Merrill, WI. Verdayne served his country during WWII in the European Theatre, receiving a bronze star, combat infantry badge, and the WWII Victory medal. He married Orella Kaufman on May 24, 1952. He was employed by Family Finance in Janesville, which later became Blazer Finance. Verdayne retired from Blazer in 1989. After his retirement, he was employed as a driver for Edgerton Hospital for 10 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Janesville for 50 years, VFW Post 1621, the American Legion and DAV. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at their cottage in northern Wisconsin.
Verdayne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Orella; 2 daughters, Kay Altstadt of Baraboo and Lynn (Vic) Amey of Odessa, DE; 3 beloved grandchildren: Kirsten Moore, Katie Merrifield and Kari (Josh) Hunsbusher; 6 cherished great grandchildren: Ashton Kies, Kaiden Moore, Jada Merrifield and Colin, Carson and Kylie Hunsbusher; 1 sister, Lois Koth of Tomahawk; many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Alan Schrader.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013, at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Parker Dr., Janesville, with Rev. Bond Haldeman officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, Janesville. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Lasting Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.
