Elaine T. Steinke, age 86 of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Marywood Center, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Wausau.
She was born on April 10, 1926 in Antigo, daughter of Gilbert and Delia (Merrill) Wendorf. On August 31, 1946, she married Raymond Steinke at Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2003.
Elaine worked for Marathon Battery for ten years. She enjoyed going to their cabin in Tomahawk, embroidering, gardening, canning, cooking and baking. She was a member of the Birthday Club in Wausau. Elaine loved family gatherings and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always glad to help others in any way that she could.
Survivors include her son, Dwight (Pam) Steinke, Merrill; daughter, Janice (Ed) Krause, Athens; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Opper, Merrill; and two brothers, Harland (Dee) Wendorf, TX, and Harvey (Vivian) Wendorf, Kiel, WI.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was further preceded in death by four brothers, Dale, Gilbert, Marvin, and Lawrence Wendorf, and two sisters, Bertie Lou Beck and Joyce Lange.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church, 15425 Hwy K South, Merrill. Rev. Kevin Hoogland will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
