Marathon rolls on Hatchets

The Hatchet football team dropped a 35-8 game at Marathon on Friday to fall to 0-7 on the season. Marathon improved to 5-1 in the Marawood (5-2 overall), tied for second with Stratford (also 5-2), and a game back of undefeated Edgar (6-0, 7-0).
“Offensively we never really got on track,” THS coach John Larson said. “Defensively we played the run real well, but we gave up a couple of big touchdowns on 4th-and-long. Special teams stuggled giving up a punt return and punt block for touchdowns.”
Despite the loss, Larson still likes what he sees.
“The team continues to work hard,” he said. “They have all been a class act, shown tremendous pride and are fun to coach.”
Marathon scored a pair of touchdowns in the opening quarters to build a 28-0 halftime lead. Tomahawk finally scored in the fourth quarter on a pass from Austin Belille to Dan Galloy, but it was mostly offset by a Marathon TD. The Hatchets added a Payton DuPlayee two-point conversion and Marathon settled for a kick.
DuPlayee paced the THS backs (18-67), and Belille (16-34) and Lorne Ahrens (4-11) pitched in. Belille completed 6-for-10 passes for 78 yards to Galloy (3-57), Cale Graeber (1-11) and Aaron Leonhard (1-7).
Marathon came up with 91 passing yards and 170 rushing.
The THS defense was led by: DuPlayee (5 solo, 6 assists); Graeber (2 s, 5 a, 1 FR); Dalvin Sanders (3 s, 2 a, 1 sack); Belillie (2 s, 4 a); Galloy (2 s, 2 a, 1 PBU); Dylan Schiltz (2 s, 4 a); Ahrens (1 s, 1 int); and Jacob Ungerer (1 a, 1 sa).
