FOR THE PERIOD: SEPT. 16-22, 2024
On 9-18-24 deputies were sent to the area of Hillside Dr. west of Champagne Dr. in the Town of Merrill for a one motorcycle crash with injuries. When deputies arrived on scene, the motorcycle operator and only passenger was located with significant injuries. In speaking with the driver, a 52-year-old man from Merrill, the deputies noticed signs of impairment. The driver indicated he knew he shouldn’t be driving, and that he lost control of the bike on a curve. Due to the subject’s injuries, the deputies were unable to ask him to do sobriety tests. The driver was arrested for a third offense of OWI. The driver was transported by ground ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Due to his injuries, he was released to a responsible party.
On 9/22/2024 a deputy responded to STH 86 in the Town of Bradley for a reported crash with injuries. The reporting party stated that the driver had told them that he crashed the night before and sat in the vehicle for several hours before he was discovered. The deputy made contact with the driver, a 26-year-old man from Milwaukee, who stated he was at a family property in Price County the night before where he stated he did have an alcoholic beverage. The man indicated he didn’t know why he was traveling in the area that he was and that he didn’t remember the crash. According to the deputy, it appeared as though the subject gradually drifted off the road and crashed. The driver was transported to Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital.
Deputies also conducted 80 traffic stops, performed 21 security checks, responded to 19 driving complaints, and responded to 7 car vs. deer crashes and 2 car vs. bear crashes. The 911 Dispatch Center took 2 hang-up calls and 14 nuisance calls.
