Lincoln County Emergency Management (LCEM) is highlighting the theme “Start a Conversation” for National Preparedness Month.
A release from LCEM said talking about potential disasters or emergencies is not always easy, but noted these conversations are “crucial for keeping our families and communities safe.”
“We may think we are protecting the people we love by avoiding these discussions, but it’s important to begin talking about preparedness now,” LCEM said. “By starting a conversation today, you and your family can take simple steps to get ready at your own pace. Set aside a time when everyone is calm and relaxed and consider spreading the discussion over multiple sessions to ensure that decisions are not rushed and everyone feels comfortable engaging with the topic.”
“We encourage residents to use this month as an opportunity to talk about steps they have taken to prepare and to learn from one another,” said LCEM Director Tyler Verhasselt. “By fostering these conversations, we can build a safer and more resilient Lincoln County.”
Throughout September, LCEM will share daily tips and resources on Facebook (tinyurl.com/3ch8ev7h) to help residents start these vital conversations.
“Whether you are creating an emergency plan, building a kit, or discussing how to stay informed, every conversation brings us one step closer to a safer community,” LCEM said.
LCEM is inviting county residents to take part in National Preparedness Month by starting conversations about preparedness in their homes and neighborhoods.
“Together, we can ensure that Lincoln County is ready for whatever comes our way,” LCEM said.
LCEM is “dedicated to protecting the lives and property of our residents by leading efforts in prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery. Our mission is to enhance community resilience through preparedness and a whole community approach.”
