Lenore A. English

Lenore A. English, 90, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Lenore was born November 20, 1933, in Merrill, daughter of Roy and Leona (Grawien) Haffemann. She married Roger A. ‘Budda’ English on October 30, 1954. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2016.

For several years, Lenore waitressed at her parent’s restaurant, Kozy Korner. She also worked at McLellan’s 5 & 10 and Wisconsin Window Unit. Lenore was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she was involved in the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran School PTL and once served as their secretary. Lenore and Budda were members of the Westside Business Association for many years. She was also a Girl Scout Leader. Lenore enjoyed bowling with the ladies in the afternoon bowling league and playing cards, especially Sheepshead.

Lenore enjoyed cooking and baking; she loved her sweets and candy and always made sure everyone was well fed. She enjoyed having company at the house; the door was always open, and everyone was always welcome. Lenore loved her family and always let them know it by calling and sending letters and care packages.

Survivors include her children, Crystal (Brent) Duwe, Randy (Linda) English, and Greg (Lisa) English all of Merrill; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Renzelmann, Jennifer Hoffman, Dr. Adam (Angie) English, Joshua (Amy) English, Marissa English (William Koepke), and Mirinda English (Matt Patnode); great-grandchildren, Allie, Aubrey and Joseph Renzelmann, Derek Hoffman, Braylee, Jacob, Evan and Eleanora English, Emily (Tyler) Kelley, and Mathew, Kayden, and Carter English; and sister-in-law, Carol Haffemann of Wausau. Lenore was preceded in death by her husband, Roger ‘Budda’ English; parents, Roy and Leona Haffemann; and siblings, Ceora (Gilbert) Sabatke and Orville Haffemann.

The funeral service for Lenore will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Francis Xavier Veterans Memorial, Merrill. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:30 A.M. Friday at the church.
