On Aug. 27, 2024, the Merrill Varsity Girls Swim Team competition against the Medford Varsity Girls.
“We had tough competition against a very experienced Medford team for our first dual meet of the season,” said Head Varsity Swim Coach Kristie Winter. “We still had some really nice individual swims.”
The Merrill Varsity Girls had five top-three finishes at the meet.
“Sophomore Marissa Miles was our top point earner, taking first in the 50 yard Freestyle and 100 yard Butterfly with a new personal best time,” Winter said.
“Senior Olivia Pajtash was just out touched in both the 200 yard Individual Medley and 100 yard Breaststroke, with both times being within a second of her personal best times.”
“Junior Addison Jirovec finished first in the 100 back yard Backstroke and third in the 200 yard Individual Medley behind Pajtash,” Winter said. “Junior Emily Winter also posted impressive early season times in the distance events, finishing second in both the 200 and 500 yard Freestyle events.”
And “Junior Claire Jirovec touched the wall second in the 100 yard Freestyle and then third in the 100 yard Breaststroke behind Pajtash,” she added.
In relay events, the ladies also did quite well. The team of Addison Jirovec, Olivia Pajtash, Marissa Miles, and Claire Jirovec finished first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:01.83.
The team of Brenna Jirovec, Olivia Pajtash, Emily Winter, and Marissa Miles took second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:53.76.
The team of Addison Jirovec, Caroline Durbin, Emily Winter, and Claire Jirovec finished second in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:30.66.
