Racers were kicking up dust as they rounded the corners and caught some air taking the jumps on the dirt race track at the Merrill Fair Grounds this past Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. Northern Wisconsin Dirt Track Racing held their second annual event, drawing participants with a variety of dirt track racing machines and racers including youth and adults. With classes for bikes and quads, the event included more than 20 classes including super pee wee, pee wee, outlaw, improved stock, open 2 stroke, powder puff, and more, making for a great family-friendly race day. The event also included a kids pedal bike race and power wheels race during intermission.
Billed as “a track made by racers, for racers,” the family-oriented event is entirely run by volunteers who start working at 7 a.m. to get the track ready and stay until the entire day is finished. The track was ready for practice around 12:30 p.m. and the races were scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
