Judith “Judy” Kay Chartier

Judith “Judy” Kay Chartier, age 80, of Merrill, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, with her family by her side and while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.  She was born on October 18, 1943, to the late Frank and Frieda (Lechelt) Lee in Merrill.  Judy attended and graduated from Merrill High School.  She met Darrell Chartier and the two exchanged marriage vows in May of 1973, in Merrill.  Sadly, Darrell passed away on December 2, 2018.

Judy worked in the purchasing department at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Merrill, before working at Graebel Van Lines as an accounts payable supervisor, until her retirement.

Judy always looked forward to shopping trips with her “girls” and friends, there were many deals to be had and many treasures to find!  She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling on leagues with friends, as well as working on sewing projects at home.  Judy looked forward to her special visits from her fur-buddy, “Cocoa”.  She adored her grandchildren and is remembered as a caring, giving and selfless woman that was also very strong-willed.  She was a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill.

Judy will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.

Judy is survived by her daughter: Melissa (Troy) Bessert, granddaughters: Jordyn Chartier and McKenna (Nick Myre) Bessert, with great grandsons: Huxley and Holland and brother: John (Joyce) Lee, all of Merrill.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Darrell Chartier and brothers: David and Jim Lee.

The memorial service for Judy will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill.  Pastor David Szeto will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the funeral home.  Inurnment at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery will take place at a later date.

The family would like to give a huge “shout out” to the staff at Bell Tower for their excellent care and compassion shown to Judy and her family during her many years there.  They truly made it a great place for her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy’s name to the American Alzheimer’s Association.

Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences are encouraged and may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
