Kids From Wisconsin to hold statewide auditions
BY TINA L. SCOTT
Kids From Wisconsin, the musical troupe that travels the state for performances all summer long, will hold auditions for their 56th season. They are looking for singers, dancers, and instrumentalists with talent and a passion for performing who would like to “work with industry pros in a professionally staged, high-caliber musical revue” next summer.
Kids From Wisconsin is considered “the only elite pre-professional performing tour experience and opportunity of its kind in the nation,” representatives say. It is comprised of 36 performers, 22 of whom are dancer/vocalists and 14 of whom make up a 14-piece show band.
Qualified candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 20 during the timeframe of May 23-Aug. 20, 2024, to apply. In other words, applicants must be age 15 or older by May 23, 2024, BUT not turn 21 or older before Aug. 20, 2024.
They must also be available from June 8 to Aug. 18, 2024, “for the summer of a lifetime” to practice, travel, and perform.
Candidates must submit an application to audition at one of the in-person locations or via video. In-person auditions will be held in multiple cities throughout Wisconsin between Feb. 23 and Mar. 3, 2024, the closest of which is in Wausau on Mar. 1, 2024.
Judges will be looking for performers who “demonstrate artistic talent, stage personality, and dedication to their craft.”
The Kids From Wisconsin program also offers a FREE audition workshop to schools. The workshop can be conducted during band, choir, or theatre classes or during flex periods. Kids From Wisconsin Artistic Staff will travel to schools to explain the professional audition process and expectations of applicants and provide tips for how to prepare for the audition and how to boost confidence. There may be opportunities for auditions, as well. The Artistic Staff will also talk about “next level” steps beyond high school. For more than 50 years, Kids From Wisconsin performers (Kids from Wisconsin alumni) “have gone on to successful careers in performance, music education, and other fields of endeavor” following their season with the troupe.
