David Showalter, age 77 of Gleason, Wisconsin passed away on October 22, 2023 in Marion, Illinois. He was born on October 22, 1945 to the late Elmer and Helen (Weaver) Showalter in Ohio. He married his first wife Sandra Schrey on August 10, 1968. She precedes him in death. He was united in marriage with his second wife, Mildred Huber in June 1996 in Tennessee.
David grew up in Pennsylvania. He spent 21 years as a missionary in South America and spent 7 years in Kentucky as a print shop manager printing Christian school books before settling in Gleason, Wisconsin. He was a tremendous gardener and he was a very handy person when it came to electrical and plumbing work. His greatest desire in life was to be a faithful Godly man. He was a farmer who loved his church, his children and grandchildrendeeply.
David is survived by his children: Joseph (Rosemary) Showalter, Jonathan (Frieda) Showalter, Daniel (Marion) Showalter, James (Elfreda) Showalter, Joyanna (Walter) Martin, Ivy (Allan) Steiner, Jennifer Showalter, Eunice (Harlan) Witmer, Ethan (Caroline) Showalter and Rose Showalter, roughly 40 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brother: Glen (Mary) Showalter, and sisters: Carol (Billy) Caudil, Joy (David) Beachy and Mary Showalter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Schrey, sons: Timothy and Enos Showalter, sister: Jane Weber and parents: Elmer and Helen Showalter.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Merrill Enrichment Center, 303 North Sales Street, Merrill, WI. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Gleason Mennonite Church. Interment will take place at the Gleason Mennonite Cemetery.
