The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) reports the body of a snowmobiler was recovered from Somo Lake in the Town of Wilson on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at about 4:20 p.m. by rescuers from the Tomahawk Fire Department. The man was pronounced dead on the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Valerie Caylor.
Earlier that day, at 10:53 a.m., the LCSO received a report of a missing 71-year-old man who had not been heard from since Friday evening, Feb. 24. The caller reported Kevin Peterson was last seen near Somo Lake Resort in Tomahawk on his snowmobile.
The LCSO has confirmed the body of the man recovered from the water was that of Kevin Peterson, the snowmobiler who had been reported as missing.
Leads led investigators to the lake where snowmobile tracks led to a section of open water.
According to the LCSO, the incident is still under investigation.
Tomahawk EMS, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office (Dive Team) also assisted with the investigation and recovery.
