MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

02-20-23
At approximately 1:49 a.m. officers responded to a fight at a local tavern that involved 11 people. It was later determined that the fight was between two males and the other parties were only attempting to separate them. Officers discovered that the fight started due to one male yelling racial slurs at the other male. Neither male wanted to pursue charges, but the male who was yelling racial slurs was cited for disorderly conduct.
At approximately 4:49 a.m. officers responded to a vandalism complaint. It was reported that a male was driving on N. Memorial Dr. near the National Guard Armory when his vehicle was hit by an egg. Officers were unable to locate any suspects.

At approximately 9:32 a.m. officers responded to a vehicle crash where the vehicle slid on the ice and hit a light pole, causing the light pole to break in half. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries; however, the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
At approximately 5:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to assist Lincoln County Deputies with a resistive subject. Officers assisted in gaining control of the subject.

At 4:33 a.m. a caller reported her live-in boyfriend had struck her with a broom and spit on her during an argument. It was found the male had come home high on marijuana and an argument ensued over some dirt on a floor. The man was arrested for domestic battery and disorderly conduct.
At 4:46 p.m. a caller reported someone struck her vehicle in a bank parking lot and left the scene. There was damage done to her bumper. The matter is under investigation.
At 6:07 p.m. a store reported a man had stolen a BB gun and other hardware items from their store earlier in the day. The matter is under investigation.

At 10:37 p.m. a caller reported someone had used her credit card information to purchase merchandise online. The package was mailed to a Merrill hotel. This matter is under investigation.
Throughout the morning hours, officers assisted numerous motorists who became stuck in the snow following the winter storm.

02-24-23
At 8:19 p.m. a caller reported that the first floor of their apartment complex smelled like pot. Officers arrived on scene and identified the room that it was coming from. The party was cited for possession of THC.
At 11:46 p.m. a caller stated that he was jumped and was outside the police station to speak with an officer. The reporting party stated that he was at a local bar when he observed an ex-girlfriend there with another male party. The reporting party stated that he was approached by a male party and was punched in the face from the side. An investigation is ongoing.

02-25-23
At 12:06 p.m. officers responded for a welfare check on a male party who was acting odd and possibly under the influence of drugs. The caller stated that the male party was talking to people that were not visible and experiencing delusions that his vehicle was “bugged.” Upon further investigation, it was determined the male was under the influence of substances other than alcohol. The male party was on bond with conditions of absolute sobriety so he was placed under arrest.
At 2:39 p.m. a caller reported a possible fraud attempt. The reporting party stated they just filed their taxes when they received a bill for $4,000 very soon after completing their taxes. The reporting party wanted to speak to an officer to make sure they weren’t being scammed. This is an ongoing investigation.

02-26-23
At 12:00 a.m. a caller reported an unknown vehicle was stuck in a snowbank in his driveway. The reporting party stated he did not hear the vehicle hit the snow bank. The vehicle was left with the keys in the ignition. This is an ongoing investigation.
At 8:21 p.m. a caller reported hearing two little girls and an adult female screaming. When officers arrived, they were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. A short time later, another 911 call came in stating they could hear yelling and screaming again. Officers made contact with the residence and discovered that it was a verbal argument between the parents of the children. The female party involved was no longer at the residence, and the male party was warned for the behavior.
