On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, the Merrill Girls Basketball Team hosted the Crandon Girls for a non-conference match-up. The Crandon Cardinals came out hot and went on a 15-3 run against the Bluejays. The Merrill girls inched their way back a little bit to make it 9-15 towards the end of the second part of the first half but gave up an easy 4 points to go down 19-9 at halftime.
The girls scored a quick two points out of the gate when play resumed after halftime, but then neither team scored for a good while and then it was another back-and-forth game for a bit. It wasn’t long before Crandon Girls started putting up the points and the Lady Jays fell behind again, 30-18. The Bluejays got it back within 4, but that would be the closest they got the rest of the game. Crandon went on a 10-2 run to end the game 50-38. Merrill Girls were led by Junior Mia Ott (11 pts, 3 stl, 3 ast), Sophie Wendorf (9 pts), and Maddie Drew (6 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast).
Box Score
