The Merrill Wrestling Team played host to Marshfield on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, and this was a rough one. The Marshfield wrestlers were in great form for this dual and won all but three matches. Brady Norton, Ryder Depies, and Noah Klug won their matches for Merrill, but ultimately Marshfield took home the win.
“We wrestled a strong team with Marshfield,” said Merrill Wrestling Head Coach Brian Suchocki. “They are currently ranked fourth in the state and are first in the conference.”
“We were able to get three pins and had some other matches we competed well in,” he said. “Noah started us out well getting a pin. Noah has been wrestling well. Being a Freshman at an upper weight is challenging. In many of his matches, he is giving some size, as well. The experience he is gaining through season is helping him improve.”
“Brady Norton also had a nice pin,” Suchocki said. “Brady is also getting better, and his wrestling is looking good. He is able to get his shots and goes right into his offense on top.”
“Ryder finished the dual with a pin. It’s been good to see his success,” he said. “Each week he brings his best.”
“Overall. it was a solid performance for us even though the score doesn’t indicate that,” Suchocki said. “Some of the matches where the opponent was better we battled. When we don’t have the upper hand in experience or ability, it is important to learn and get better from it. We are getting everyone back and hopefully it stays that way going into the post season.”
