MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

01-16-23
At 12:16 a.m. a caller reported his son had stolen his vehicle. The son called his dad soon thereafter and told him the whereabouts of the vehicle. The dad retrieved the vehicle and no longer wished to pursue charges against his son.
At 1:01 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop for a speed violation. The driver was found to have a warrant for his arrest through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was cited for speeding and arrested for the warrant.
At 4:37 p.m. a store reported a male was concealing merchandise. It was found the man had damaged the packaging to several of the items. He was cited for retail theft.

At 3:36 p.m. a caller reported someone stole the registration plate from his vehicle. Investigation continues.

01-18-23
At 4:37 a.m. officers were dispatched to an apartment complex for a report of a suspicious male subject sitting naked in the hallway. Officers responded and located that male sitting in the hallway with just a towel on. The male subject did not have any explanation as to why he was sitting in the hallway with just a towel on. The male subject was ultimately arrested for possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and a probation violation.
At 12:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in regards to an argument between roommates. Officers responded and found that the one party had knocked a bowl of soup out of the other party’s hands and shoved them. The male subject was arrested for one count of domestic disorderly conduct.
At around 12:52 p.m. the School Resource Officer took a report of a theft of items at the High School.
At 3:55 p.m. officers were requested by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to take an individual into custody for a probation violation. The party was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
At 8:42 p.m. officers were dispatched to a business for a report of an individual attempting to steal alcohol from the store. Staff confronted the subject and was able to retrieve the alcohol. The male subject was located a couple of blocks away by an officer. The male subject will be cited for retail theft and underage drinking. The investigation is ongoing for possible involvement of other accomplices.

At 11:45 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a disturbance. Officers responded and found that a female party had intentionally punched a television, breaking the screen. The female subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, and a probation violation.

01-20-23
At 3:13 p.m. a hotel reported damage had been caused to a room in November. They had contacted the person who rented the room, who agreed to pay for the damage, but has not yet done so. The officer will be following up with the woman who rented the room.

01-21-23
At 12:10 a.m. a caller reported someone broke into her residence and changed the locks. It was found a realty company had accidentally changed the locks, mistaking the residence for one they owned, which was next door.
At 5:16 p.m. a caller reported an intoxicated man stumbling about at a restaurant with two small children. It was found the man had driven to the restaurant with the children. The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated (4th offense) with passenger <16 and bail jumping.

At 6:29 p.m. a caller reported he found a registration plate on the side of the street. The registered owner will be contacted to return the plate.
