Merrill Girls Basketball Team on a conference winning streak

On Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, the Merrill Girls Basketball Team hosted D.C. Everest for a conference game.
For the majority of the first half, the score went back and forth between the two teams. However, the Bluejays kicked it into gear, going on a 7-1 run, and went into halftime up 23-12.
It took about 6 minutes for either team to score in the 2nd half and then the Bluejays stepped it up, going on another impressive run of 26-8. The rest of the game was kind of a steady back-and-forth scoring between the teams. Merrill’s press and defense continues to help them win close games. The Bluejays scored 27 points on 25 turnovers forced and out rebounded the Evergreens 45-29.
The Lady Jays wrapped up the game with a 30-point lead and a big conference win.
Sophie Wendorf led the Bluejays (14 pts, 6 reb, 2 stl) along with Mia Ott (13 pts, 7 reb, 4 stl), and Alayna Pozorski (10 pts, 5 reb, 7 ast) and Prayla Pyan (10 pts, 2 reb, 1 stl) were right behind them.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Merrill Girls Basketball team traveled to Wisconsin Rapids for a conference match-up with the Red Raiders.
Scoring went back and forth for a little while in the beginning of the game, but after an early 2-2 tie, Merrill stayed on top. At one point, the Bluejays had a 14-point lead. At halftime, the Bluejays held a 12-point lead.
The beginning of the second half was a little slow for the Merrill girls. Rapids went on a little 7-2 run to bring the score to 37-30, but the Bluejays fought back and went on a 15-0 run to get up 52-30 about 3/4 of the way through the second half. Merrill maintained this lead for the rest of the game and scored a big conference win 57-38. The Bluejays were led by Mia Ott (19 pts, 5 reb, 4 ast), Alayna Pozorski (18 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast), and Addy Schmeltzer (9 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast).
