MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

11-14-22
At approximately 2:29 p.m. officers of the Merrill police Department responded to a local big box store for a shoplifting complaint. The suspect was cited for retail theft and given a trespass violation notice from the store.

11-15-22
At 9:12 a.m. an officer responded to of E. 5th St. for a report of a vehicle that had been entered. The reporting party did not notice anything missing, however, some of the belongings were scattered throughout the vehicle.
At 6:43 p.m. an officer responded to a big box store in the city of Merrill for a shoplifting complaint. Asset protection advised that a person concealed an item and left the store without paying for it. The Merrill Police Department has a suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

11-16-22
At approximately 4:34 p.m. a deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported a suspicious person rummaging around a vehicle. An officer responded and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. One of the passengers had an active probation warrant through the Department of Corrections and was arrested.

11-17-22
The Merrill police Department received information that a juvenile made a threat of punching another classmate at the middle school. An sfficer spoke with the teachers and the parents and the juvenile suspect. Investigation is ongoing.

11-18-22
At 1:53 p.m. a vehicle was stopped after the description of the vehicle provided by the license plate did not match the vehicle the plates were on. The driver was then found to have a suspended license.
At 5:40 p.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Upon arrival, it was found that the vehicle had already been pulled out by a person passing by. The vehicle sustained no damage from the incident, and the driver was able to drive it away.
At 8:38 p.m. officers spoke with a male party regarding a physical altercation that had occurred at his residence earlier that day. The male party stated that he and his wife had gotten into a verbal argument which escalated into a physical altercation where she hit him. After speaking with the wife, she was taken into custody for the incident.

11-19-22
At 10:13 a.m. an individual reported that an item had been stolen out of his vehicle sometime throughout the night. The investigation is ongoing.
At 11:10 p.m. an individual was stopped after they were observed not completely stopping for a stop sign. The driver was issued a citation for the violation.

11-20-22
At 12:53 a.m. an open door was located on a residence. The residence was cleared of threats and the door was re-secured without incident.
At 1:48 a.m. a vehicle was stopped after it was observed operating without any headlamps illuminated. After speaking with the passengers of the vehicle, they were found to be under the legal drinking age and had been drinking. The individuals who had been drinking were issued citations for the incident.
At 5:23 p.m. officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a parking lot. While speaking with the occupants in the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana could be smelled coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in multiple items of drug paraphernalia being located and confiscated.

11-21-2022
At approximately 8:30 p.m. it was reported that there was a wheelchair that was burned by a juvenile. An officer spoke with the suspect and cited the juvenile for the open burning violation.

11-22-2022
At approximately 9:47 a.m. a manager from a local factory found drug paraphernalia in the men’s bathroom. During the investigation, a male party was arrested for a Probation and Parole warrant.

11-23-22
At 6:55 p.m., a female was observed in a store and confirmed to have an active warrant. The female was taken into custody for the warrant and, after being searched, was found to have marijuana and drug paraphernalia on her. The female was issued a citation for the marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
At 10:40 p.m. officers observed a vehicle parked in a park after closing hours. Upon making contact, occupants were found to have been drinking and were issued a citation for underage drinking.

11-24-2022
At 2:44 a.m. officers responded to a physical altercation occurring between a male and a female at a residence. By the time officers arrived, the male had left and was unable to be located. According to the female, an argument had occurred, which escalated into a physical altercation before the male fled. The male was located later that day and taken into custody for the incident.

11-25-2022
At approximately 8:35 a.m. an officer responded to an apartment on Thielman Street for a welfare check. The reporting party stated he hadn’t spoken to his 91-year-old grandmother for few days. It was later confirmed that the grandmother was in the hospital.
At approximately 8:57 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a residence on Logan Ave. for a report of a subject who stated she had thoughts of suicide. The subject was transported to the Aspirus Merrill Hospital and an emergency detention was placed. The officer escorted the subject to the North Central Health Care Center in Wausau.

11-26-2022
At approximately 2:33 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a department store in the City of Merrill for a disturbance. The reporting party stated that a male shopper was whipping his cart around and being loud. The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and a probation violation.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on Pier St. for a report of an intoxicated male making verbal threats of self-harm. Officers were able to force entry due to exigent circumstances. It was determined there was not going to be an emergency detention hold on the suspect. The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct with the domestic enhancer.

11-27-2022
At approximately 4:43 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop. A male individual was arrested for a Probation and Parole warrant.
