Wrap Up for the Period of: 11/14/2022 – 11/20/2022

A portion of State Rd. 107 was closed for over four hours Sunday night, Nov. 20, 2022, into the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 21; following a motor vehicle crash in the Town of Corning. At 5:48 p.m. Sunday evening deputies responded to a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole at the intersection of Cty. Rd FF and State Rd. 107. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Town of Corning First Responders and Volunteer Fire Department assisted with road closure, while personnel from Wisconsin Public Service worked to repair damage to the utility pole.
Traffic on US Highway 51 Southbound in the Town of Merrill was briefly reduced to one lane on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 16, following a motor vehicle crash. At 7:15 a.m., deputies responded to the one-vehicle rollover crash involving a pick-up truck and trailer, near mile marker 214. No injuries were reported. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the crash scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
A portion of State Rd. 107 in the Town of Merrill was closed for approximately 45 minutes in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 14, due to a garage fire. Multiple agencies responded to assist the Merrill Fire Department at the scene, including Town of Pine River, Town of Russell, and Town of Corning Volunteer Fire Departments. The Wausau Fire Department and Wisconsin Public Service also responded. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to a stove which was located inside the garage.
Twenty-four motorists reported striking deer this past week.
Deputies were kept busy with over 20 vehicle slide-offs and a handful of crashes, related to the return of Old Man Winter and consistent snowfall throughout the week. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

Wrap Up for the Period of: 11/21/2022 – 11/27/2022
A 34-year-old Tomahawk man was taken into custody on Sunday evening Nov. 27, following an incident in the Town of Tomahawk.
Deputies initially responded to a reported theft at a residence. However, upon further investigation, deputies learned an incident had taken place where the man reportedly made threats and threw items at another party inside the residence. As a result, the man was taken into custody on a charge of domestic violence related-disorderly conduct as well as an outstanding warrant out of Vilas County.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 27, deputies took a 34-year-old Janesville woman into custody, following a traffic stop in the Town of Birch. Upon contact with the woman, the investigating deputy observed signs indicative of alcohol impairment. The woman reportedly became uncooperative during contact and resisted efforts by deputies to take her into custody. Once in custody, the female party reportedly made threats toward deputies, caused damage to the interior of a patrol vehicle, and kicked a deputy. The woman now faces numerous charges, including felony charges of threats to law enforcement and attempted battery to a law enforcement officer, and misdemeanor charges of resisting/obstructing an officer and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI) w/passenger under the age of 16.
On the evening of Thursday, Nov. 24, deputies responded to a reported disturbance in the Town of Bradley. As a result, a 23-year-old Tomahawk man was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence related disorderly conduct, after it was learned he had reportedly threatened and pushed another party inside a residence.
A barn has been reported as a total loss, following a structure fire on Thursday. At 4:57 a.m., the Lincoln County E911 Communications Center received a report of a barn fire in the Town of Scott. Responding to the scene were deputies of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, units and staff from the Merrill Fire Department, as well as those from the Towns of Corning, Pine River, Texas, and Maine Volunteer Fire Departments. The origin of the fire is suspected to be related to a Skid-Steer, which had been parked inside the barn. Crews were on-scene for nearly 10 hours. While no injuries were reported, 10 calves were reported to have perished in the blaze.
Thirteen motorists reported striking deer in Lincoln County last week, down from 24 the week before.
