The Merrill Varsity Boys Soccer Team (0-6-0) played Northland Lutheran (0-4-1) at Merrill on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, and emerged the victors of the match. Merrill made two goals in the first half. “The game started out at a fast pace, with Nathan Mattson scoring his first goal of the season on an assist from Sebastian Trevino,” said Ryan Schroder, MHS Boys Soccer Head Coach. “The second goal came in the 19th minute when Clayton Evans took a pass from Sebastian Trevino just past the half line and beat all the defenders on the way to score his first of the season.”
“Near the end of the first half, the Wildcats capitalized on a penalty kick, making the score 2-1 at halftime,” he said.
At halftime, the Bluejay Varsity team welcomed the area youth soccer players on the field for Youth Soccer Night and took a quick photo.
“The second half started just as quickly as the first when Sebastian Trevino took a through ball from Vincent Keenan and finished for his first goal of the season in the 47th minute,” Schroder said.
“The Jays and Wildcats would continue to battle until the final whistle with the Jays taking their first win of the season,” he said. That made the Merrill victory all the sweeter.
Box Score:
Northland Lutheran 1 @ Merrill 3

On Saturday, Sept. 10, Merrill hosted the Boys Varsity Soccer Triangular at Jay Stadium. Teams from Antigo and New London came to play and New London took home the win, winning their games against both Antigo and Merrill.
Merrill’s Tyler Spade got one past the New London defense to score one in the net in their game against New London, but it wasn’t quite enough, as New London made three goals for the win.
In Merrill’s game against Antigo, the Red Robins scored two against the Bluejays for the win.
Box Scores:
Antigo 2 @ Merrill 0
New London 2 @ Antigo 0
New London 3 @ Merrill 1
