The Merrill Bluejay Varsity Football Team opened their season last Friday night, Aug. 19, 2022, against Northland Pines up in Eagle River and kicked off the 2022 Varsity Football season in a big way!
“The Bluejays wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 lead sparked by a 30-yard run from Nate Brzoznowski on the first play of the day,” Head Boys Varsity Football Coach Jason Wadzinski said. “Nate finished the day with 139 yards on the ground and 4 touchdowns.”
“Brian Ball was second on the team in rushing with 79 yards on the day,” he said.
“The Bluejays finished the night with a 43-0 shutout over the Eagles. It’s the first time Merrill put up 40+ points in a game since 2017 and the first shutout the defense pitched since 2015,” Wadzinski said.
“The Bluejay offense finished with 358 yards on the ground, and the defense allowed a combined total of 6 yards of total offense,” he said. “It was a great way to start the season, and the fruits of the boys’ offseason labor are already beginning to shine through.”
