MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

08-15-22
At 1:24 p.m. a caller reported someone stole medication that was mailed to him. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:24 p.m. a business reported two males who were acting strangely in the business. The two men were taking photos of one another, and one appeared injured.
At 7:39 p.m. a store reported a female shoplifting in the store. An officer located the female, and she had concealed nearly $160 worth of merchandise in her purse and pockets. She provided her cousin’s name and information to the officer. A photo of the cousin was obtained from Vilas County Jail, and the photo did not match the thief. She admitted she had lied because she had a warrant. She was arrested for retail theft, misappropriate identification to avoid penalty, two counts of felony bail jumping, a Vilas County warrant, and a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
At 9:06 p.m. a caller reported a juvenile male was continuously ringing his doorbell and running to a park across the street before the caller answered the door. An officer spoke to the juvenile’s mother who said she would address the issue with her son’s behavior.

At 12:39 p.m. a caller reported someone entered three unlocked vehicles at their residence, stealing items from inside the vehicles. Investigation is ongoing.
At 2:45 p.m. a caller reported a fraud attempt. The caller received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Social Services. The caller provided bank account information to the scammer. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:35 p.m. a caller reported finding a check on the ground. The officer returned the check to the owner, who reported a family member had stolen her checks, including this one. The checks were found to be stolen from a county address, and the investigation was turned over to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
At 6:20 p.m. a tavern reported an intoxicated male was causing issues and was escorted from the tavern, and there was concern he would attempt to drive. It was found the man had been refused further service due to his level of intoxication, and he was asked to leave. He became loud and vulgar and was escorted outside by a patron. The man had also reportedly pushed the owner. The man was cited for disorderly conduct and provided a ride home.
At 10:15 p.m. a caller reported her daughter and friend were walking home from a park and two males in a truck harassed them along the way.

At 2:22 a.m. a vehicle was stopped and the driver was issued a citation for failing to yield.
At 4:19 a.m. officers were contact by an individual regarding a historical domestic. According to the male, he stated that a female living with him had hit him, pushed him, and then slapped him earlier in the morning before he got ready for work. When officers went to speak with the female, she refused to provide a statement. The female was then taken into custody for the incident.

At 3:19 p.m. two scooters were reported as stolen from the Merrill Festival Grounds. The scooters were later located, and citations will be issued to the individuals found to have taken them.

08-19-22
At 1:50 a.m. a caller reported a male at a tavern fighting with other patrons. Upon arrival, two males were found physically fighting in the roadway. It was found one of the males was told to leave the tavern by the bartender. Another patron left and found the man outside the tavern, who then became confrontational toward him. The two began fighting. The instigator was arrested for battery, disorderly conduct, and bail jumping.
At 10:32 a.m. a caller reported someone accessed her checking account and it was overdrawn by several thousand dollars. Investigation is ongoing.
At 3:12 p.m. a caller reported someone accessed his cell phone account, adding new lines without his consent. Investigation is ongoing.

08-20-22
At 5:12 p.m. an officer investigated a minor crash in a parking lot.
At 11:02 p.m. a caller reported two youths he knew to be in high school were consuming beer in a beer tent at the fair. Contact was made with the juveniles, and they were cited for underage drinking and released to their parents.

08-21-22
At 3:15 a.m. officers responded to a 911 hang-up call. It was found an intoxicated male at the residence had thrown a fan across the room and shoved a female. The man was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and probation violation.
At 10:31 a.m. a male reported a female was refusing to leave his residence. The female decided she would leave when officers arrived.
At 10:56 p.m. a caller requested assistance removing a bat from her apartment. An officer was able to capture the bat and released it back outdoors.
