Oscar H. Silvers was born on July 13, 1934, in Boyd Town, Wisconsin to Henry Z. Silvers and Goldie C. (Jones) Silvers. Oscar died on August 8, 2022, following a brief stay at Our House Memory Care in Wisconsin Rapids. Oscar was 88 years old and passed peacefully from health complications due to dementia. He received kind, loving and devoted care at home in Merrill from his wife, Kay, and his son, Keith, and daughter-in-law, Pam, for many years.
Oscar is survived by his two sons, Kenneth J. Silvers of Quilcene, Washington and Keith B. Silvers (Pam), Merrill, Wisconsin; his sister, M. Ellen Schmidt, South Beloit, Illinois; three grandchildren, Chelsea and Kyle Silvers, Michael Wolfe; 1 great-granddaughter, Juniper; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
Oscar was raised in Racine, Wisconsin where he worked and completed his GED. Oscar’s sons were born in Racine, while he was married to their mother, Nancy (Silvers) Reyers. They later divorced and the boys lived with their dad. Oscar lived and worked for most of his adult life in the Wausau-Wisconsin Rapids-Merrill areas. Oscar and Kay S. (Van Winter) Collins were married in 1984. Oscar was a skilled, union machinist by trade, retiring in 1999. Oscar and Kay bought and sold many homes and other properties, primarily in rural areas. Oscar built several homes and out-buildings, often by himself, and cared for feral cats on the properties. He had a passion for attending auctions and delighted in finding “good deals.” Over many years, Oscar also enjoyed feeding wild birds and deer on his properties, collecting coins, working on puzzles, watching VHS WWII movies, and following political analysis programs on television.
