Sarah Sturm of Merrill was recently hired as the new part-time Marketing Director at the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce. In her new role, she will work to enhance the experience of the Chamber’s members, “showcasing the great business community,” and “bring awareness to all Merrill has to offer,” including “the activities and opportunities that are great for all ages!” Sturm said.
Specifically, “I will be running the social media channels, continuing the Merrill Member Moments videos, and creating newsletters and emails that go out to our email list,” she said. “I will also be doing things for the visitor’s side of things and making sure we are keeping our vestibule stocked with guides and attraction information.”
Sturm was born and raised in Wabasha, Minn. [population 2,655 in 2020], where she worked part-time at the town’s Chamber of Commerce during the summers while attending college.
She is a 2013 graduate of the University of Wisconsin–LaCrosse with a degree in Organizational and Professional Communication, with minors in Professional Technical Writing and Photography. While in LaCrosse, Sturm also volunteered with the LaCrosse Area Chamber of Commerce as a Chamber Ambassador.
She held a number of positions while living in LaCrosse, including “sales and marketing positions,” “Recruiting and Marketing Coordinator for Coldwell Banker River Valley, REALTORS,” and “Direct Mail Specialist for The Buyers Express.”
Most recently in Merrill, Sturm was employed at “Park City Credit Union [PCCU] as their Business Development Manager, overseeing the Marketing Department.”
“PCCU was a great place to work and was a great opportunity, getting me instantly actively involved with the Merrill community,” Sturm said. She is a member of the Merrill Noon Optimists and was a Merrill Chamber Ambassador prior to leaving PCCU.
“I left to pursue this part-time opportunity at the Chamber so I would have more time with my family!” Sturm said. She and her husband, Ben, [a Merrill native] moved to Merrill together in 2018, and are now parents to their 18-month-old son, Lincoln. This part-time position allows her more time with her son and to explore the Merrill area, she said. She looks forward to fostering “the growth of the city by promoting all there is to do” through her work at the Chamber, she added.
Sarah, Ben, and Lincoln live in Merrill along with their cat, Indy, and dog, Junior.
