Church Mutual president, CEO announces retirement plans

Rich Poirier

The president and CEO of Church Mutual Insurance Company will step down in 2024.

The Board of Directors announced Rich Poirier will retire in early 2024, after 13 years with the company.

According to a press release, the Board is conducting a CEO search with the assistance of an executive recruiting firm. The process includes internal and external candidates. The company is on track to name a president and CEO-elect in late 2022 or early 2023. From then, Poirier will continue to serve as CEO until his retirement to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

“I’ve had the privilege of being CEO of this very special company for the past eight years,” Poirier said. “Leading Church Mutual has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I have had the honor to know and work with a wonderful team. I am very grateful to our Board of Directors for the confidence and trust they placed in me to lead this company.”

“Rich has had a distinguished career in the insurance industry and with Church Mutual,” said board chairman John (Jay) B. Williams. “We are thankful to Rich for his outstanding leadership and transformation of the company over the past several years. Rich is a servant leader who has worked tirelessly to serve our clients, policyholders and employees. He created an inclusive and diverse culture as the company continued to transform and grow.”

In addition to his work at Church Mutual, Poirier has served on the Board of Governors of the American Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (APCIA) and as incoming chairman of the board for Aspirus Healthcare System, along with many other philanthropic organizations.
