LINCOLN COUNTY – A program that focuses on helping children learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices will be held in Tomahawk and Merrill beginning in June.

The program, Choose Health+, is being coordinated by Lincoln County 4-H as outreach programming and will be led by Sawyer Miller, UW-Extension Lincoln County’s 4-H AmeriCorps Vista.

Miller explained that Choose Health+ is a six- to seven-week program that focuses on improving the ability for children to make healthy decisions and form habits that have an impact on their overall health.

“We accomplish this in a few ways, including teaching healthy, easy, and affordable recipes that a kid can cook; using fun, active games to encourage an active lifestyle; and providing calming activities to encourage thinking before they act,” Miller stated.

Miller said Choose Health+ provides material and skills kids can take home.

“Participants will learn how to interpret food labels, make informed decisions about what they eat, bring home easy and healthy recipes, as well as learn strategies to calm down in the event of a stressful situation, and be more mindful of their emotions,” Miller stated.

Choose Health+ will be offered free at T.B. Scott Free Library, 106 1st St., Merrill and Tomahawk Public Library, 300 W. Lincoln Ave., Tomahawk.

The program in Merrill will begin on Tuesday, June 7 and will be held each Tuesday through July 19. Registration is required. To register, call T.B. Scott Free Library at 715-536-7191.

The Tomahawk program will begin on Wednesday, June 15 and will be held each Wednesday through Aug. 3. No registration is required.

Enrollment in 4-H is not required to participate in the program.
