2022 History Hunt registration now open

Registration is now open for the 2022 History Hunt, a fundraiser for the Merrill Historical Society, which will be held Saturday, May 14, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Merrill History and Culture Center (MHCC), 100 East Third Street, or online at MerrillHistory.org.

The theme for the 2022 History Hunt is “Merrill in the Roaring Twenties,” celebrating over 100 years since that turbulent and pivotal decade began. As part of this celebration, special treats and behind-the-scenes access stops are planned along the scripted route to enhance the day for participants. [Some at locations the public seldom or rarely ever gets to see.] Teams are invited to wear costumes to add to the fun, and there is a prize for best team costume. Also, participants may star in a silent movie – so the costumes will certainly make that more fun, organizers say.

A feature again this year is the inclusion of a guidebook compiled by the History Hunt planners. “Each participant will receive an information book containing pictures and stories which relate to places along the route and life in Merrill in the 1920’s,” said Bea Lebal, President of the Merrill Historical Society. “This year, a part of the hunt will include uncovering clues to lead hunters to the After Party, where team prizes will be awarded for Best Team Name, Best Team Costume, and Best Social Media Presence. Raffle prizes will be available. There will also be a special raffle prize to celebrate Merrill’s 175th Anniversary – every participant will be included in the drawing for a cash prize of $175. The minimum team size is two people, because you need a driver and a navigator, but your team can be as large as you would like,” Lebal said. Hint: The After Party will be at a “pop-up speakeasy.”

The cost is a $15 Team Fee for each team PLUS either $5 or $10 per team member (Merrill Historical Society Members receive a discount). This includes History Hunt driving directions, the guidebook, three raffle prize drawing tickets, and admission to the After Party.

Registration for the 2022 History Hunt closes Wednesday, May 11, and space is limited due to the size of the After Party location.
