Maple Grove’s 52-year tree tapping tradition continues

Maple Grove School principal, Robin Hanson (in center of photo in black/pink jacket) instructs a class of students before they head into the woods with adult volunteers to tap their own trees. For the first year, each and every student in the school tapped two trees and will be responsible for collecting the sap from those trees. The students will also collect and utilize various data from the experience as a part of their classroom study.

Peter Fromm Wade (himself an alum of Maple Grove School and also a descendant of the Fromm Brothers who generously supported Maple Grove School throughout the years) is one of a group of volunteers who came out to help students find healthy maple trees, determine the best location for tapping, drill the holes, and then assist students with tapping the trees and hanging the sap collection bags.
