World Championship Merrill Ice Drags Week 2

On Feb. 5, 2022, it was People’s Choice Day at the World Championship Ice Drags in Merrill. It was a cold start with temps below zero at 8:00 a.m. for setup but they rose to a balmy 15 degrees by the end of the day. That didn’t stop this group of diehard ice draggers. And it still drew racers from as far away as Fulton, Ill., for the third time this season.
“Record class entries and many new racers prove there is still great interest in this legendary one of a kind, homegrown event! Thank you to all who sponsor, spectate, and race!” said Cindy Opichka, President of Merrill Ice Draggers Inc.

World Championship Merrill Ice Drags Week 3

The World Championship Merrill Ice Draggers Inc. Memorial Race 2022 was run Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, with the Ice Dragger families and friends sharing stories of three legendary Ice Draggers who unfortunately passed away this year: Lon Woller, Denny Gruenwald, and Wild Bill Frazier. These were three amazing car builders, racers, fathers, brothers, uncles, and friends. The Merrill Ice Drags wouldn’t be what it is today without them. “They will be missed!” Opichka said. “In honor of Lon, Denny, Bill, and all our racers that are no longer with us, this week’s for you!”

This year the traveling trophy for Modified win goes to Ryan Blake. E.T 7.295 MPH 110.
