Lane is December Youth Optimist at MHS
Monica Lane has been named December Youth Optimist at Merrill High School (MHS). She was nominated by Ms. Katherine Holz, who commented, “This young lady has a special way with people. She can see the positive about everyone she comes in contact with. When she has disagreements with peers, she can have a mature conversation about a topic with style and grace. She is empathetic, hard-working, and a giver.”
“Monica has a rigorous course load, is a two-season Varsity athlete, is an officer in school groups, has two after-school jobs, and still makes time to support her classmates in sports and activities,” Ms. Holz said. “She is a mature, dependable student, who listens and makes people feel awesome!”
Monica has been involved in Raise Your Voice (Treasurer), Junior Optimist, National Honor Society, L.E.A.D., Student Council, Link Crew, Basketball (Team Captain, Letter M), Soccer (Team Captain), FRIENDS, and Selected for Leadership Club by Coaches at MHS.
When not in school, Monica volunteers keeping scores, books, and working concessions for both basketball and volleyball tournaments, Hoops for Health, and is a ball runner for soccer. She also rakes leaves for community members, makes Valentine’s Day cards for nursing homes, participates in Tyler’s Playground projects and Christmas for kids, coaches soccer, is involved with the Black Squirrel Scurry, and gives private basketball lessons.
Following graduation, Monica plans to attend UW Stevens Point to become an Occupational Therapist. She is the daughter of Robin and Shannon Lane.
